As soon as we have some messages we will begin to see the archives, and you will be able to log into them. Emails sent to the old list will be archived by me. There was no way to import them into the new email list server. I already have entered the 46 members of the list manually, so everyone is there and can use it. You will see the archives building little by little. I will be archiving by month, so in the future, you can search for things in the month you think the message was sent. I do hope we will continue with efforts to reach all C350 owners to join!! QUESTION #1 When I clicked on the link in your e-mail [http://www.catalina350.net/mailman/listinfo/c350ia] It took me to a screen showing 350i archives when I clicked there I received the following announcement ************************************************************ Forbidden You don't have permission to access /pipermail/c350ia/ on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache Server at www.catalina350.net Port 80 *********************************************************************************************** I do appear as one of the embers listed. So what's going on? QUESTION #2 On our website there are two links. One to FORUMS and the other to MAIL LIST. Since communications of this type that I am typing go to all those subscribed to this chat list[ mail list] and are seen by all, why do we need the forums?? I KNOW some people like the separation by subject but if lets say Hull # 250 has an issue with his bilge pump [ just an example] and he discusses it for first time under a "Plumbing" forum or a "Hull Issues " forum how will the rest of us stay in the loop unless we are logged on to both those forums and in fact to ALL forums to stay in the loop. If we return to this current protocol[the old way] surely we will all see everything again and be able to ignore or delete what we don't care to read? There are many interesting subjects that have already been discussed on one or two of the current forums which I only stumbled on by chance when browsing the web site. I feel left out of these subjects and I didn't even know the conversation was going on!! This current mail list , or chat list format has worked for 9 years and is the basis for spreading information to the growing owners community and a tool to communicate between Mainsheet issues. Diluting it to dozens of forums that we don't see unless we actively search the website, splits us apart and is not helpful to the association. The basis of growth has been everyone's ability to see all subject all the time [and ignore what they don't want to read] I volunteered to the membership position in 2002 before we had an association, when we bought Hull #5 - the first on the East coast. I organized the first C350 Association In Atlantic City the following year and I personally negotiated with Sailnet to add C350's to their list of lists. I know from the C320 association [where I was a past Commodore], that this list format was VERY instrumental in building and maintaining the C320 Association's growth. It is the place where a lot of bitching takes place but also a lot of constructive conversation and organizational discussions. So I fear the Forum format, unless e-mails are posted there after they have appeared on the general list, will dissipate our efforts to build this community. I do urge all subscribers to join this conversation and especially to continue the format we have been used to for all these years now that Jerry has made it possible!! and to spread the word to other owners to log on. Sorry for my soap box comments . I will now get of the box! David David Isaacs C350 Association Membership Chair C350 #5 "Shalvah " Stamford, CT. I originally preferred the chat list because it was what I was used to. However, I now find the forum more useful as it encourages the writer to stay on topic. For me, the main downside of the chat list is that it encourages chat. This is generally a good thing and I definitely encourage it among the association members but people do not bother to change the subject line and I may not want to read about someone having a cocktail after a day fishing when the topic line would lead me to think that I would be reading about fuel filter replacement parts, or visa versa. Yes, I can delete the message but I have to read it before I know that it is not something that I do not want to read. On the other hand, I find it easy to catch up on anything and everything posted to the forum by using the "view posts since last visit" feature. Given the independent nature of sailors I know that there will never be a one-size-fits-all approach but, in my opinion, having both choices available on our association website is the best solution overall and we will see over time how they are used. I have a choice of having the software build archives for the following time spans. Daily Weekly Monthly Quarterly Annually The archives need to be built by some traffic. As soon as we have some messages we will begin to see the archives based on how I configure the list server. Then you will be able to log into them. I am inclined to archive on a weekly basis. I tend to think along the lines of, "I think I saw that message last week or so. Maybe it was two weeks ago." Looking back a week in email messages is not too much trouble. Then in the following week , you can look/search in the archives. Please respond to the list with your preferences ARCHIVES OF THE PREVIOUS LIST'S MESSAGES Emails sent to the old list will be archived by me. There was no way to import them into the new email list server. I already have entered the 46 members of the list manually, so everyone is there and can use it. You will see the archives building little by little. I will be archiving by WEEK, unless the group has another preference, so in the future, you can search for things in the week you think the message was sent. Creating the archive of the older messages may take me a wile. It will be time consuming because I will need to do it one email at a time. One way to make it happen faster and easier would be if you all looked in your SENT mail box of your email program and RESENT any messages you have sent since the old list server went on line. Please let me know whether that is something you can do. If enough of you respond, I will do the archiving of the old messages the second way. I'm also interested in if you would be interested in a chat room capability. It is something I could add but will not be willing to police. If we had some moderators for it it could be very interesting. Let me know how you feel about that. Hi David,

I have not yet received the kits, however I did receive a letter from our dealer who said they would install the kits if our yard let outside contractors work on our boats.  I plan to follow that route and not do the work myself.
