I posed these questions on another sailing site a while back. For anyone who has done it him- or herself, did you attach the old and new halyards together in some fashion? Tape the ends together and throw in some stitches for extra hold? Or something else? If you pulled the halyards through the mast, in which direction did you go? Up the mast then down through the slot in the mast (which I suppose you could call clockwise), or up through the slot in the mast then down (which would be counterclockwise)?
I have the full-battened main. I have a section on the main halyard where the inner core has come loose. It looks bad, but does not effect performance in any way---that part is in the slack that clears the winch after the appropriate wrapping prior to any raising of the main. I have been putting off replacement for fear of screwing up somehow if I employ the methods described above.

Back in May 2006 I replaced the 3/8" halyards with the recommender 1/2" halyards because of slippage and excessive wear. Now only after 2 years I am showing considerable wear on my main halyard.
Is anyone else having this problem and did I recently see an e-mail discussing this issue and that Garhauer has a fix for this issue?
Even though I use my boat often I don't believe the main halyard should wear out this quickly.
Thanks
