-Mike, I don't have a backstay adjuster on my 350.
I guess the first question is do you have a furling main or a standard rig main? I'm not sure you could bend the furling mast.
Our rigs really aren't set up to be bent no matter what main you carry. A backstay adjuster will do two things. 1. flatten the main 2. tension the forestay (reducing the catenary curve of the luff). Both those things work to depower the sails. It's a heavy air control. I just don't see it benefiting the 350 when you can easily de-power by reefing. If it was a racing boat, yes...you would want that fine tuning control.
Actually, the boat thrives off heavy air....no need to de-power!

I recall someone has done this with blocks on the split backstay and a long wire which come downs below the bimini, then a boom vang to do the adjustment under the bimini.

Any details out there including parts and lengths (I have the Catalina Bimini)?
How well does it work to improve the jib set while going upwind?

  Thanks for the ideas!

    to all,

USAA steered us toward Progressive as well. I will revisit the Mainsheet article and call to see if there is a difference. I wonder could our variouws locations have something to do with whom USAA sends us too?

    Interesting comments though.
