Living in the NE, I remove my main each season. Each season I have a
problem lowering the main after it passes about 1/3 down the mast. I have
no idea what causes the jam but each year I perform the same routine-raise
the sail above the jam and then pull straight down past the jam with some
extra effort. Sometimes with the help of my son and sometimes with the help
of a winch. Once it passes the jam, the sail lowers fine. I have not found
anything that causes this nor have I found any problem with the sail after
lowering it. It's a mystery to me.

Subject: [c350ia] Mast Furling Mainsail
This past weekend during a moderate 16 kt gust, the loop at the Tack of our
Furling Mainsail that fastens the foot to the hook on the rolling furler
parted with a loud pop. The boat and sail is 4 yrs old.
Has anyone experienced this failure?
When I went to lower the mainsail (for the first time since owning the boat)
to remove it and take it to a sail loft for repair I found that it would not
lower. With the sail unfurled, slack in the outhaul and furler, and the
main halyard clutch released I could not get the main to budge. Thoughts
are either a jam of the halyard in the mast or at the top of the mast, or a
jam of the sail in the furler track.
Has anyone experienced this, or have recommendations?

problem lowering the main after it passes about 1/3 down the mast.<span

each year I perform the same routine—raise the sail above the jam and
then pull straight down past the jam with some extra effort.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Sometimes with the help of my son and
sometimes with the help of a winch.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
</span>Once it passes the jam, the sail lowers fine.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>I have not found anything that causes
this nor have I found any problem with the sail after lowering it.<span

(for the first time since owning the boat) to remove it and take it to a sail
loft for repair I found that it would not lower. With the sail unfurled,
slack in the outhaul and furler, and the main halyard clutch released I could
not get the main to budge. Thoughts are either a jam of the halyard in
the mast or at the top of the mast, or a jam of the sail in the furler track.</span><span
