Hi John,
We have hull number 25 and are entering our 6th season with Elusive. =
After the first two seasons, I had a great deal of play in the rudder =
which turned out to be loose cables. The cables can be tightened with =
the adjustment nuts on the quadrant - just have to be very agile to get =
to them. I just tightened up until it felt good - don't know if =
Catalina has any recommendations. Steering has been much more =
responsive since.

Subject: [c350ia] Steering
I need some help with a problem that just appeared with my steering =
system. I first noticed a little shake in the wheel when leaving the =
dock this weekend that may have been caused by prop flow over the =
rudder. It was time to do the annual inspection of the steering system. =
I was below while my wife ran the wheel from full left to right. The =
cables seem to bounce. I don't see any play in the rudder itself. I am =
down to two possible causes. Either the cables are a little loose. =
Would like some advice on this point...how tight should they be. They =
have never been adjusted and this is our fourth season with the boat. =
The other possible cause is the autopilot ram. Could that be binding? =
Not sure what maintenance needs to be done on it. I really appreciate =
any thoughts you might have.
Thanks
John
